As one Brit on NPR put it so aptly, we avoided talking about the race of this man for nearly the entirety of the campaign, now that it's over, we can finally talk about 'what the hell just happened'. America, who's text-books tell children that the Civil War was about race (when that was less a factor than many other things), the country who's racial struggles have been forefront in the global eye, the nation who's nationhood has reeked of racial division, has chosen to move forward, to move beyond and acknowledge what they've said all along, that all men are created equal.

This is not to say that racism is gone, take note of the racial tensions that emerged at the 'Christian' university of Baylor in Texas immediately following the election. But America may have finally reached the peak of one of the last and largest hills in the climb towards, what's the word, togetherism? colorblindness? Voters in Colorado are still waiting on the results of an amendment to effectively end affirmative action in the state (the vote is neck and neck with 91% of precincts reporting), but the fact that the issue can even sway half the population speaks volumes to the notion that Americans are ready to move themselves beyond racism. Americans have chosen, they have placed their future in the hands of a Black man. Thank you, America.

There are other aspects of this that I would like to discuss, chief among them the debate amongst Christian Voters over the importance of the issue of abortion. I did promise one friend that I would write on it, and I will, but considering the great weight, and potential wordiness of the subject, I think I will tackle it another day. I find myself beginning this blog at a volatile time in both my life and the world around me. I forsee that I am going to be digging deep within myself and revealing my struggles in politics, religion, life and writing. I hope that you will come read and I certainly hope that you will participate in any discussion that may move you.
- Gabe

In The Beginning...

In the beginning was the word, and the word was with blog, and the word was blog.
I may be bordering on sacrilege there, but the pun was irresistible.

Hi,

My name is Gabe, and I'm a person.
I'm a person who is male,
a person who is 26,
who is overweight,
from Denver,
lived in Portland,
lived in Florida,
is back in Denver,
raised a Christian,
scared and hurt by religion
still a Christian,
squirms in church,
voted for Obama,
drives a Honda,
just got contacts and wonders how he put up with glasses for so long,
has a wonderful girlfriend [who shall be known as Smallish Bear (or S.B.),],
wants to tell the truth,
wants to find the truth,
believes in absolute truth,
likes some things about Postmodernism,
likes some things about Fundamentalism,
reads too much,
doesn't read enough,
likes music,
listens to a massive variety of music,
can't play music and definitely can't sing,
still records clips of songs he's made up,
loves really bad jokes and puns,
has an extreme fondness for words,
who has extreme admiration for those who use them well,
a person who wishes to share his thoughts with the world,
I am a person who will do so via this blog.

Thanks,
- Gabe
